Preparing for Your Family Photoshoot

Hello! If you are looking at this blog post it is probably because you have booked me to take portraits of your family. This is a great way to create memories that last in photo form! Before your shoot takes place, there are some things you can do to be prepared.

Family portraits always look better with coordinating outfits! Your outfits do not have to be matching, but using a similar color scheme helps bring the focus to your family and not your outfits. Some families prefer formal outfits for their session, while some choose to dress casually. It is all up to you!

Taking photos during the colder months can be tricky, but the results are always worth it! If your session is taking place during the winter, you may want your family to bring jackets to wear while their photo is not being taken in order to keep warm and comfortable. Jackets can be removed to snap the picture and be put right back on!

If you would like, you may also bring certain props to your photoshoot. For example if you think you might want a photo of your family sitting down, you could bring a neutral colored blanket for everyone to sit on. This is especially useful in rainy months if the ground is moist. If you have a special chair you would like to incorporate into a photo or two, this is another thing you could bring.

Sometimes it is wise to bring a compact mirror and a hairbrush with you. If there is wind on the day of your family photoshoot, hair starts to go everywhere! All you need to fix this is a brush/comb and a mirror to see what you are doing.

I hope you are looking forward to your upcoming portrait session. I am so excited to capture some memories for you and your family!
